McAuliffe complete Vinci demolition job

One Stop Solution reduces CO2 and halves the programme requirements

McAuliffe has successfully completed its first contract for Vinci Construction, one of the Worlds leading construction groups, to demolish the existing WT Basement Building at the University of Wolverhampton's Walsall Campus.

The completed site will now be transformed to form part of the new Performance Hub at the University, which will provide state-of-the-art teaching facilities and specialist accomodation.

vinci demoThe scheme represents the first project that McAuliffe has been awarded by the globally renowned contractor with the second contract following in quick succession shortly after completion.

This was largely due to McAuliffe being able to demonstrate the added value of their works compared to its competitors.

Providing a one-stop packaged solution, McAuliffe were able to carry-out the reduced level excavation and piling mat works concurrently, halving the construction programme.

This not only reduced the administrative burden of appointing multiple contractors, but also reduced the CO2 emmisions on-site by eliminating mobilisation costs for two contractors.

Andrew Anderson, site manager at Vinci said, "McAuliffe have proven themselves to be a very good subcontractor who communicated the works well and responded positively to any comments".

McAuliffe's innovative haulage team also provided additional CO2 reductions through back-loading. This required precision planning to allow the waste removed from site to be replaced with recycled aggregate on the back load for use within the piling mat s with no double handling.

John McAuliffe, managing director of McAuliffe said,

"We already partner with some of the largest house builders and developers throughout the UK providing a range of novel and innovative solutions to our clients.  This project demonstrates our ability to apply this kind of methodology and partnership working to a more traditionally procured package.

"We look forward to working alongside Vinci during future projects and will continue to offer trusted and practical advice to our clients ensuring added value and cost reduction solutions."

The works, compiling of demolition, aggregate supply and earthworks was completed on time and within budget.
