The Great Charles Street development is set to provide 722 new apartments, and will be made up of four blocks rising from 6 to 39 storeys. The space will include a gym, co-working areas, bar and restaurants, and cinema rooms.

McAuliffe is carrying out excavation of all made ground on site, as well as removal of obstructions, re-engineering of soils, and placement of a soil-stabilised piling platform, which will enable phased handover for the follow-on build.

Prior to these works, the 2.6acre brownfield site had sat undeveloped for more than 70 years.
The McAuliffe team broke ground on the project at the end of March, and is on track to hand over the site to Sisk by the end of the summer.

This is the third landmark city-centre Birmingham project McAuliffe has been appointed to in recent years, with the team completing works on the HS2 Curzon Street Station site in 2022, and Court Collaboration’s major One Eastside development earlier this year.

John McAuliffe, Group Managing Director at McAuliffe Group, said:

“It’s great to be back in central Birmingham working on another landmark scheme in our home region. Like Curzon Street and One Eastside before it, the Great Charles Street project is bringing new jobs, homes, and investment into the city, and we feel privileged to be part of it as a local business.”
